Bc. Nutritionist, Intuitive Eating counsellor

helps women get to the root cause of their health and weight problems and find a solution to balance their hormones and naturaly reach their ideal weight using the Transcendent method.

The Transcendent Method

If there is one thing I’ve learned in the past 10 years of my practice is that every diet or lifestyle change backfire if it’s implemented for a purpose of weight loss. Something I knew for a long time but was too scared to see it. Because how else I can control my weight than through controlling my food and exercise.

The Transcendent Method is my answer to a healthy body, happy mind and life without dieting. Whether you are a woman preparing for having a child, pregnant or post-partum or a busy mum, finding it hard to take care of herself or facing mid-age hormonal changes, it all starts with your mind and your relationship to food and your body.

If not diet then what?

Intuitive Eating is a series of tools and skills designed to help you move away from rigid external rules, and learn to eat according to your body’s natural appetite and physiological cues.

How will I control food?

The powerful connection of the body to mind will help take over any control needed to improve your health and body that was genetically designed for you. You may have been reliant on external rules for a long time, to tell you when, what and how much to eat...

Hormonal imbalance?

Hormonal health is the essence of women's happiness. When our hormones are affected we may feel down, depressed, our self-regulatory system will be affected and we may see symptoms such as bloating, fluid retention, weight gain, hair loss or fatigue.

How dieting affects your body...

SLOWER METABOLISM

Your body can’t tell dieting apart from actual food scarcity and starvation, so to compensate for the shortage of calories, your metabolism slows to try and conserve energy. You become more efficient at doing more with less. In other words, your body becomes really good at storing fat.

OVEREATING AND BINGING

Dieting leads to bingeing. It’s science. Say you skip breakfast to try and be ‘good’. Your brain is pissed. It sends out neurotransmitters and hormones like ghrelin and neuropeptide Y – both of which are super potent orexigenic, meaning that they stimulate appetite. So as the day goes on, these guys build-up, you give in (to your normal biological urge to eat) and once you pop you can’t stop. Sound familiar? Yup.

WEIGHT CYCLING

Your weight can go up higher than your original weight – I mean, doy! How many people do you know who’ve sustained weight loss over long periods of time? Now how many of those people are content and not furiously counting calories or going beast mode *shudders* at the gym? Right, so everyone else is probably heavier than their original weight and feeling pretty shitty about that (because that’s what society has decided they should feel), and now they’re trying to figure out the next diet they’re going to attempt.

FOOD OBSESSION

You can’t stop thinking about your next meal, when you’re allowed to eat again, you spend hours picking out recipes on Pinterest and trawling Instagram from #foodporn figuring out how you can make ‘healthy’ gluten-free, sugar-free, low-cal substitutions. You have no mental bandwidth left for living your life.

DEPRIVATION BACKFIRES

You know when you were a kid and your mum told you not to do the thing, so you did the thing? Yeah. I see this all the time with my clients. They say certain foods are off-limits, foods they enjoy eating but deem ‘bad’. They do without it instead of satisfying their craving for it. Next thing they know they’re shoulder deep into a bucket of Phish Food, feeling sick and guilty. And the next morning you’re skipping breakfast to ‘make up for it. Rinse and repeat.

They undermine your own innate ability to recognize hunger and fullness:

Think about it; if you’re following a diet plan down to the letter, you’re relying on someone else to tell you what, when and how much to eat. THEY DON’T KNOW YOUR LIFE.

Relying on someone else to tell you what to do can so easily result in eating too much or too little: Let’s say you’re doing one of the points systems. You’ve used up all your points for the day, but you’re still hungry? You either go hungry or you beat yourself up for going over. Neither of them sounds like good options to me. Likewise, if you have some points left over, you’re probably not going to let them go to waste, even though you’re not hungry.

About Vera

Hi there, Kia ora.

Nice to meet you. This is me, a new mum, wife, dog and life lover.

I am also totally addicted to good chocolate and sourdough bread. Which was hard when I used to restrict food for sake of better health or limited how much I ate to lose weight. Guess what, none of that happened, quite the opposite.

I was sad, always irritated and my hormonal health and weight were questionable. But I didn't know any better back then.

The day I met Intuitive eating everything changed...

HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Suppose you don't know how to eat anymore. If you feel like every day is a war between you and food, the food somehow always wins. If you tried every single diet, cleanse, detox, lifestyle change or "system" out there to help you lose weight but it eventually finds its way back in.
If you feeling that despite you barely touch junk food, don't even drink alcohol or coffee and yet the number on a scale is constantly rising then this is it, this is the thing that will change your life, forever.

If you are constantly thinking about what you can and want you to wish to eat, are done with variations of tasteless salads or with spending a half-day on the toiled due to that cleanse that supposedly meant to help you to restart your body and metabolism, then you are at the right place.

If eating out with others makes you feel uncomfortable or overwhelmed or when someone brings in your favourite food but you are on a diet, this is for you. If you are done with faceplanting in a cookie bowl every time you are trying to process emotions or feel better after a long stressful day, this is for you.

Intuitive eating is not a weight loss program but it will certainly change your life and give you life-long energy and happiness. Intuitive eating will help you simplify your life and help you to reach your healthier self in the body you have been born with. You will never see food as a problem anymore, food will become a nourishment, source of energy, joy, pleasure and connection. You will no longer feel traped inside of your body.

FAQ

How long will it take to become Intuitive Eater?

Intuitive Eating is not a quick fix like most diets; we sometimes describe it as therapy and food. Consider how long you’ve spent on the dieting merry-go-round, jumping on and off the bandwagon – it could be a lifetime’s worth of stuff we’re working through, so it helps to think you’ll be in it for the long game. That said, you will see significant improvements in your relationship to food and your emotions very, very, very soon.

What if I have a medical condition where I have to be considerate of what I eat, is Intuitive Eating still appropriate for me?

Yes! My qualification as a registered nutritionist will help me navigate you through various medical conditions or special dietary needs: coeliac disease, IBS/gut health, PCOS, and high cholesterol. I apply a Gentle Nutrition approach to our work, meaning you will never be reinforced into rigid food rules, but rather think about how we can add in, rather than take away from your diet (where possible). I take an evidence-based approach, meaning that my counselling is up to date with the latest scientific evidence and incorporating the latest emerging approaches into the clinical practice.

Will Intuitive Eating help me lose weight?

Intuitive Eating isn’t a diet; in fact, I will encourage you to let go of dieting and weight loss as an outcome. Instead I can help you find the weight that is healthiest for you and your body. By going through the IE process, I hope to help you embrace your body’s natural shape and size, move away from the restrict/binge cycle and feel less bonkers around food so you can focus on things that are most important to you!

What shall I do before I will start with Intutive Eating?

There is nothing needed to do or take on before you embark on a healing journey via mind-body work and Intuitive Eating. You might feel that you want to get the weight off first and then make peace with food. Think of the last attempt at weight loss; how much weight have you eventually gained in the process? The reason why you here is to heal your body and mind and to give yoru body a chance to recover after years of restrictions and stress. The best thing for you to do before you start this journey is to thank your body for holding up for you so long, and now is time to return the favour.
